Emirates Steel Establishment (Unit I),
the first of its kind in the UAE to manufacture
Steel Ingots, was established in 1998 as
a feeder unit for Gulf Steel Industries
Co. Ltd. The ingots are manufactured
from steel scrap which is melted in an Induction
Furnace. Experienced and very competent
personnel and a modern chemical laboratory
ensure strict quality control. This unit
has an installed capacity of 20,000 TPA.
The success of the first unit resulted
in the establishment of a more technologically
advanced unit with an installed capacity
of 40,000 TPA in Unit II. Ingot casting
was replaced by continuous casting, and
a Spectrometer has been added for chemical
analysis. These improvements delivered better
yield and superior cast structure, and also
ensured stricter quality control.
The excellent performance of both units
has now resulted in the setting-up of a
third mega unit slated to produce 250,000
TPA of Steel Billets in a high-tech
Electric Arc Furnace / Ladle Furnace / Concast
Unit that would not only melt the scrap
but refines the material as well. The plant
will have capability to produce special
alloy steel billets too.
