ANIE inks deal to make transformers - UAE
Date : 13 Dec 2005
Abu Dhabi: Al Nasser Industrial Enterprises (ANIE) has signed an agreement with Brush Transformers Limited, the leading British manufacturer of power transformers to build a plant for the manufacture of power transformers in the new Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD).
The Brush Transformers (Gulf) LLC plant will incorporate advanced technologies to build the largest power transformers manufactured in the Gulf Region, and will reduce the current reliance on the import of units of between 33KV voltage class to 132KV voltage class transformers of up to 90MVA unit capacity from Europe and Japan.
These mid-sized power transformers are a key component in the distribution of power from a generating plant through transmission lines to customers.
"This new plant will cater to the growing needs of the UAE and the region for these transformers. The technology transfer from Brush Transformers Ltd, UK means that Brush's latest designs and developments in 3D modeling and Finite Element Analysis, along with its accredited quality procedures and extensive manufacturing experience will be incorporated into a local facility that will serve the needs of the MENA region," said Abdulla Nasser Bin Hawaileel Al Mansoori, Chairman, ANIE.
David Woolhouse, Managing Director, Brush Transformers Limited said the Middle East has always represented a strong market for Brush.
"This joint venture represents an opportunity for the use of Brush designs and technology in a plant that will be able to provide improved and more responsive service for our customers. This plant will be of the most modern design and will incorporate the requirements of valued clients, such as the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA)," Woolhouse said.
As the electricity requirements in the Abu Dhabi region are expanding at a rate of between seven and ten percent annually, ADWEA is a major customer of Brush power transformers. These units have previously been built in the UK and shipped to the UAE.
The plant will be located in the new ICAD industrial area of Mussafah, which is being managed by the Higher Corporation for Specialised Economic Zones.
Expected to be completed by the end of 2006, the plant will be capable of producing more than 200 power transformers of the mid-size range per year.
Brush has been building power transformers since 1879.
