The excellent performance of both units has now resulted in the setting-up of third mega unit slated to produce 250,000 TPA of Steel Billets in a high-tech Electric Arc Furnace/Ladle Furnace/Concast Unit that would not only melt the scrap/DRI but refines the material as well. The plant will have capability to produce Special Alloy Steel Billets too.

Backward Integration

In order to increase the self-sufficiency of it’s Steel Units and to minimize dependency on Scrap, the company is also setting-up Sponge Iron manufacturing facility to produce DRI for in-house consumption and exports.

State-Of-The-Art Technology

The scrap is first processed by Shearing Machine and Pressing / Bundling Machine. The Quality Control Office inspects the scrap and orders removal of deleterious items such as Copper Wire, Zinc coated items etc. before it is cleared for melting. The Electric Arc Furnace in unit – III will refine the scrap, removing all the Sulphur, Aluminum etc, thus maximizing the mechanical properties of Steel.

In addition, much higher economy is achieved by this process in which the metal is tapped out of the Electric Arc Furnace and transferred to Ladle Furnace for Micro-Alloying and temperature adjustments. The chemical composition and temperature of the liquid metal are adjusted in the Ladle Furnace. The metal is tapped only after laboratory clearance. The liquid metal will be cast in a three strand Continuous Caster. The Concast parameters are strictly maintained to achieve superior cast structure.
